Well about a year ago I installed Ubuntu on my computer, first as a dual boot system then later I wiped the hard drive and installed it as my only OS.
It has worked really well and would be suitable for pretty much anyone with no special computer skills needed as everything (that an average user would need) can be run through GUI's. I did have a couple of issues with the dual boot set up but that was mainly due to microsoft overwriting the bootloader GRUB when I didn't want it to. So I would recommend giving it a go if for no other reason than trying the 72 different versions of solitaire it comes with.
